Description
This course addresses the collision that can occur when greater structural demands are required of commodity lumber while lumber continues to be produced from fast growing trees with lower structural properties. The course also highlights some of the code changes and requirements while presenting solutions to address these potential problems.
Course Outline- Intro to Forestry’s changing fiber basket
- Large Point loads occurring in residential construction and plate crushing
- Code requirements on foundation walls and plate considerations
- What is unbraced length and how are the recent code changes affection how headers are framed and the problems that can occur with garage portals
Learner Objectives
- Fully understand how changing practices has a direct effect on design and structure.
- Recognize where the potential problems occur and provide a solution for them through product or design.
